Description
- Sunflower seeds/Russian sunflower seeds
- Sunflowers are considered oilseeds. Sunflowers are processed into cooking oil, meal and confectionary products. Distinct varieties are used for oil and for confectionary purposes. Meal is a byproduct of the oil is extraction process and is used primarily as an ingredient in livestock feed rations.
- Well drained sandy loams, black soils and alluvial soils are suitable. Water logged areas should be avoided. Primary cultivations, such as ploughing with a mouldboard plough or chisel plough, are suitable.
- Soil should remain moist and well-drained all time. Give your sunflowers at least 7.6 litres of water a week at the time of germination of seeds. If you do not give sufficient water during their growing stage, then sunflowers will have thin, weak stems, unable to hold the heavy flower head up.
